BCA Built Environment Innovation Hub Innovation Sandbox 2026

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) invites solution providers to apply for access to a dedicated innovation sandbox at the Built Environment Innovation Hub (BEIH). The sandbox is intended for testing, refinement and demonstration of emerging technologies and re-engineered construction processes in Singapore, with an initial focus on productivity-enhancing solutions such as robotics and automation and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (BCA, updated 17 July 2026).

Activities and eligible applicants

The sandbox activity is open to eligible local and overseas solution providers, including overseas suppliers without a physical presence in Singapore. Proposed solutions must be relevant to the built-environment sector, focused on improving construction productivity, and sufficiently ready for testing to advance local adoption—for example, solutions that are new to the market, not yet validated for local conditions, or require adaptation to local building codes and requirements (BCA, updated 17 July 2026).

BCA distinguishes sandbox activity from demonstration activity. Sandbox activity covers local-market adaptation and experimentation with re-engineered or improved processes and is open to all eligible applicants. Demonstration activity showcases newer solutions to industry stakeholders but is open only to tenants of the BCA Braddell Campus. Tenants are eligible for both activity types (BCA, updated 17 July 2026).

Space, cost and duration

The primary sandbox space is a triple-volume research lab at Block E, Level 2 of BCA’s Braddell Campus, with floor loads up to 7.5 kN/m² and a landing platform for hoisting heavy equipment. BCA may identify alternative campus spaces where needed. The space is offered at no charge to successful applicants, but solution providers bear mobilisation, demobilisation, reinstatement, operational and support costs, and must sign a standard indemnity agreement before starting (BCA, updated 17 July 2026).

Standard occupancy is up to six months per solution provider, including mobilisation and demobilisation; longer periods may be considered case by case. Demonstration by campus tenants cannot run beyond the office lease period and is subject to refreshing displayed solutions every three months (BCA, updated 17 July 2026).

Application cycles and assessment

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis in two-month cycles. BCA’s page gives 1 September–31 October 2026 as the subsequent cycle if space remains after the first cycle, with assessment at the end of the cycle and notification within one month of closure. Applicants use the prescribed form and provide the solution, objectives, equipment and space needs, and proposed occupancy period (BCA, updated 17 July 2026).

Assessment weights industry-level construction-productivity impact at 40%, clarity of testing objectives and expected outcomes at 30%, setup feasibility at 20%, and industry-stakeholder involvement at 10%. Critical criteria also include relevance to Singapore’s construction industry, readiness for deployment at a local project within one year, and no need to alter existing infrastructure. Acceptance is discretionary and the sandbox is not a grant, certification, or guarantee of market adoption (BCA, updated 17 July 2026).
