CASTLE cybersecurity training programme
Singapore Polytechnic's CASTLE programme combines cybersecurity training, industry attachments and enterprise-facing clinics and Security Operations Centre services to connect student learning with organisational practice.
CASTLE cybersecurity training programme
Singapore Polytechnic launched the Cybersecurity Assessment and Security Operations Centre Training Lab for Enterprises (CASTLE) programme on 19 August 2026. Its purpose is to connect cybersecurity education with operational practice: students combine classroom learning with internships and industry attachments, while educators stay connected to current industry work (MDDI, launch speech, 19 August 2026).
What CASTLE provides
The launch description identifies three enterprise-facing components: cybersecurity clinics, Security Operations Centre services, and student-led awareness programmes. These are intended to make cybersecurity capability more accessible, including for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while giving students opportunities to respond to realistic problems and work alongside practitioners. The announcement describes the programme's intended activities; it does not state that all SMEs receive services at no cost, and it does not guarantee an industry placement for every student (MDDI, launch speech, 19 August 2026).
The learning model is deliberately applied. MDDI describes cybersecurity as a hands-on profession whose experience cannot be fully replicated in a classroom; CASTLE combines classroom learning with internships and industry attachments so students can respond to real incidents and work alongside practitioners. The same model keeps educators connected to current industry practice. This explains why the programme has both student-facing and enterprise-facing components: the clinics and Security Operations Centre services are not merely classroom exercises, while the student experience is not the same thing as a commercial managed-security contract (MDDI, launch speech, 19 August 2026).
Partnerships and policy role
Singapore Polytechnic said CASTLE is built through education, industry and government collaboration. The launch speech welcomed memoranda of understanding with ST Engineering, OffSec and Athena Dynamics, and linked the programme to Singapore's cybersecurity talent pipeline and wider digital resilience. The Ministry of Digital Development and Information's description presents CASTLE as a capability-building and applied-learning programme, not as a new cybersecurity law, mandatory certification, or replacement for the Cyber Security Agency's national guidance (MDDI, launch speech, 19 August 2026).
Relationship to national cyber guidance
The launch places CASTLE within a wider ecosystem in which government provides guidance and good practices, industry contributes operational experience, and education institutions build talent. MDDI specifically cited CSA's Cyber Essentials certification as a practical starting point for organisational cybersecurity hygiene and said it would support future engagements under CASTLE. That does not make CASTLE the issuer of Cyber Essentials, a replacement for CSA guidance, or a guarantee that a clinic engagement results in certification. Organisations remain responsible for choosing and implementing the controls, assessments and incident-response arrangements applicable to their own risks (MDDI, launch speech, 19 August 2026).
The speech also frames CASTLE as part of a people-and-partnerships approach to resilience. AI may help automate tasks and strengthen cybersecurity, but the programme's stated value still depends on human curiosity, judgement, practical experience and shared responsibility. Accordingly, the existence of a CASTLE service or student-led activity should not be read as an automated compliance decision, a promise to detect every threat or a substitute for competent professional judgement (MDDI, launch speech, 19 August 2026).
