Grab AI Programme for SMEs

The Grab AI Programme for SMEs is an IMDA–Grab partnership under Singapore's Digital Enterprise Blueprint (DEB). Announced on 21 May 2026, it aims to reach 10,000 small and medium-sized enterprises in the food-and-beverage (F&B), e-commerce and retail sectors, helping them raise AI awareness, strengthen AI literacy and accelerate practical AI adoption (IMDA, Uplift 12,000 SMEs in AI and Cybersecurity, 21 May 2026).

What the programme provides

The programme is delivered through GrabAcademy and is designed around common SME barriers such as uncertainty about useful applications, limited awareness and lack of implementation support. Its complimentary resources include online training videos, AI masterclasses and webinars co-curated with IMDA. These materials introduce AI fundamentals, practical sector use cases, relevant solutions and available government digital-adoption support for participating SMEs; they are not an automatic grant or a promise that every participating SME will receive a funded deployment (IMDA, Uplift 12,000 SMEs in AI and Cybersecurity, 21 May 2026).

The resources serve different stages of readiness. A video, masterclass or webinar may build awareness, while the two-day course and later provider contact address use-case selection and implementation planning. Participation in an awareness activity should not be treated as completion of the course or as evidence that IMDA, Grab or a solution provider has approved the SME's eventual deployment. The programme's support is a pathway from learning to possible adoption, not one bundled benefit that every business receives in the same form (IMDA, Uplift 12,000 SMEs in AI and Cybersecurity, 21 May 2026).

Two-day AI course and adoption support

For SMEs ready to move beyond awareness, Grab and the Singapore University of Technology and Design co-developed the enterprise course “From AI Awareness to Business Advantage: A Practical Roadmap.” The structured two-day course takes participants from understanding AI's business value to identifying relevant use cases and developing a practical AI roadmap, with hands-on exposure to IMDA pre-approved AI solutions. Following the course, Grab and IMDA pre-approved solution providers can help participating SMEs identify suitable solutions for their business needs (IMDA, Uplift 12,000 SMEs in AI and Cybersecurity, 21 May 2026).

How it fits Singapore's enterprise-support system

The programme is one of two new DEB partnerships announced in May 2026; the other is RSM Stone Forest IT's Cyber2SME programme, which focuses on phishing simulation and cyber-resilience support. Together, IMDA said the two partnerships aimed to reach 12,000 additional SMEs, contributing to the DEB's broader target of supporting 50,000 SMEs by 2029 (IMDA, Uplift 12,000 SMEs in AI and Cybersecurity, 21 May 2026). The Grab programme should therefore be distinguished from the selected-company transformation model of driving entrepreneurship with ai workshops and from infrastructure or compute support such as enterprise compute initiative: it is a sector-focused awareness, skills and implementation pathway, not a universal entitlement to cash, credits or procurement.

Target, participation and outcome boundaries

The announced 10,000-SME figure is a reach target for the Grab partnership, not a count of businesses that had completed an AI deployment as of the 21 May 2026 announcement. The target sectors—F&B, e-commerce and retail—define the programme’s stated focus; they do not establish that an SME in another sector is covered or that every business in those sectors is automatically enrolled (IMDA, Uplift 12,000 SMEs in AI and Cybersecurity, rechecked 12 September 2026). Likewise, online learning, a masterclass, the two-day SUTD course and contact with a pre-approved solution provider are different forms of support. None alone proves that a company has selected a solution, qualified for a Productivity Solutions Grant, received implementation funding or achieved a particular productivity result. Those outcomes depend on the relevant solution, application route, business circumstances and current government terms. The programme is best described as a structured on-ramp from awareness to possible adoption, with separate decisions still required at the implementation stage.
