SGInnovate

SGInnovate is a Singapore government-backed deep-tech ecosystem builder and investor. Its stated mission is to help scientists and entrepreneurs build technology-intensive products born from scientific research, using Singapore’s research, corporate and talent ecosystem (SGInnovate, Our Mission, accessed 2 September 2026). SGInnovate’s role is ecosystem development rather than general business support: its activities centre on deep-tech startups, talent and connections between research and commercialisation. A company’s presence in the SGInnovate ecosystem does not by itself mean that it has received investment, a grant or regulatory approval.

SGInnovate’s operating model

SGInnovate describes a “Deep Tech Nexus” built around three linked functions: talent development, investment and community-building (SGInnovate, Our Mission, accessed 2 September 2026). Talent work includes traineeships, courses, jobs and programmes that connect people with deep-tech companies; investment work focuses on early-stage deep-tech startups; and community work connects founders, researchers, companies and other partners. The functions are complementary but should not be collapsed into one funding product. Participation in a course or community activity is not evidence of an equity investment, while investment in a portfolio company is not evidence that every SGInnovate talent or ecosystem service is available to that company.

Deep Tech Central and ecosystem access

Deep Tech Central is SGInnovate’s online gateway for Singapore’s deep-tech community. The platform brings together jobs, talent programmes, courses and events for companies, students and professionals, while also directing organisations toward ecosystem connections and capability development (SGInnovate, Deep Tech Central, accessed 2 September 2026). The platform describes access to more than 37,000 deep-tech talent and up to 70% co-funding across SGInnovate talent programmes, but those are platform-level or programme-level descriptions rather than a universal entitlement for every user; eligibility and award conditions depend on the specific programme. Deep Tech Central is therefore best understood as an access and matching gateway, not a single statutory scheme or a general-purpose jobs guarantee.

Investment and Singapore’s deep-tech system

SGInnovate’s portfolio function focuses on early-stage deep-tech startups developing solutions to difficult global problems (SGInnovate, Our Portfolio, accessed 2 September 2026). This places SGInnovate between scientific research and company-building: it can help connect research-derived ideas to capital, talent and commercial networks, while founders still carry responsibility for their company’s technology, financing, compliance and market execution. SGInnovate also works with universities, corporates, public agencies and international partners, so a collaboration involving SGInnovate should be read according to its named instrument and counterparties. For example, an SGInnovate partnership with a medical school is distinct from SGInnovate’s general investment portfolio and from a government research grant administered by another agency.
