Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine is NTU Singapore’s medical school, established with Imperial College London and partnered clinically with National Healthcare Group for medical education, research and healthcare talent development.
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) is Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore’s medical school. NTU established LKCMedicine in 2010 in partnership with Imperial College London, with a mission combining innovative medical education and transformative research; the National Healthcare Group is its primary clinical partner (NTU Singapore, LKCMedicine, accessed 2 September 2026). LKCMedicine is an institution within NTU, not a separate national medical regulator or a general healthcare licensing body. Its programmes, clinical training and research partnerships should therefore be interpreted through NTU and the relevant healthcare institutions.
Institutional transition and medical education
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine transitioned to an NTU Medical School from 2024, ahead of the planned successful conclusion of the NTU–Imperial partnership to establish a Joint Medical School in 2028 (NTU Singapore, LKCMedicine, accessed 2 September 2026). The transition changes the institutional context for future cohorts, but does not make every historical reference to the school an NTU-only programme: the founding partnership remains part of its institutional history. LKCMedicine offers undergraduate and graduate programmes, including the NTU Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree. Its education model draws on NTU’s strengths in engineering, technology, biomedical research and humanities, as well as Imperial’s medical curriculum and the clinical expertise of healthcare partners (NTU Singapore, Education, accessed 2 September 2026).
Clinical partnerships and healthcare workforce
The National Healthcare Group (NHG) is LKCMedicine’s primary clinical partner, while the school also works with hospitals, polyclinics and specialist centres in Singapore’s other healthcare clusters (NTU Singapore, About Us FAQs, accessed 2 September 2026). These relationships give students and clinician-scientists access to clinical teaching and research environments, but they do not mean that every partner facility is operated by NTU or that an LKCMedicine affiliation itself confers a right to practise medicine. Medical registration and practice remain governed by the applicable Singapore professional and healthcare institutions. LKCMedicine’s stated workforce purpose is to educate doctors and medical leaders attuned to patients, society and Singapore’s healthcare needs.
Research and public-facing collaborations
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine’s research spans global and population health, neuroscience and mental health, cancer discovery and regenerative medicine, respiratory and infectious disease, and metabolic, skin and microbiome health, with an emphasis on Asian populations and Singaporeans (NTU Singapore, LKCMedicine Research, accessed 2 September 2026). The school also incorporates technologies such as artificial intelligence and precision medicine into its research and education agenda. Its Office of Patient Engagement provides a channel for patient and public voices in medical research and education. A collaboration such as the 2026 LKCMedicine–SGInnovate AI-in-healthcare partnership is a specific talent and innovation initiative; it should not be treated as the whole school, a universal student entitlement or a replacement for LKCMedicine’s ordinary degree, clinical or research structures.
