SMRT Journeys for Good 2026

Journeys for Good is a three-year collaboration between SMRT and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) that uses SMRT transit advertising space to increase public awareness of selected Institutions of a Public Character (IPCs) and their causes. SMRT and MCCY signed the supporting memorandum of understanding in May 2026; the initiative is intended to help IPCs with publicity, fundraising and volunteer outreach (SMRT, 2 September 2026).

2026 charity trains and selected IPCs

The inaugural 2026 edition features 12 selected IPCs across causes including healthcare, disability inclusion, food assistance and community services. The first charity train is scheduled to operate on the North-South and East-West Lines from 3 September 2026, with a second charity train planned one week later. Commuters can scan QR codes on the train to learn about the participating IPCs and their work (SMRT, 2 September 2026).

Funding and proposal boundary

SMRT committed S$1 million for the publicity needs of selected IPCs, with advertising space provided through its advertising arm Stellar Ace. In the first phase, 179 IPCs submitted campaign proposals; the number selected for the charity-train feature was increased from six to 12. The remaining 167 proposing IPCs are to receive complimentary support consisting of two bus-shelter bulletin placements each for 26 weeks, including media space, production and printing (SMRT, 2 September 2026). These figures describe this initiative's 2026 proposal and support arrangements, not a universal grant, an IPC registration route or guaranteed fundraising outcomes.

Selection timeline and scope

The first phase began in June 2026, and SMRT says another group of IPCs will be selected in March 2027. The initiative turns existing transit-network advertising assets into a public-awareness and community-giving platform; it does not make every charity an automatic beneficiary or turn a commuter's journey into a donation obligation (SMRT, 2 September 2026; MCCY, 2 September 2026).
