Singapore–Macao relations
Singapore–Macao relations are supported by economic ties, frequent exchanges and agency cooperation in transport, heritage, elderly care, gaming regulation and youth engagement.
Singapore–Macao relations
Singapore maintains good relations with the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), supported by economic ties and frequent exchanges at several levels. Macao is a region of the People's Republic of China, so Singapore's engagement with Macao is distinct from its state-to-state relationship with the PRC. Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes the relationship in terms of practical cooperation and exchanges rather than a separate diplomatic relationship between two sovereign states (MFA, Macao Special Administrative Region, accessed 29 August 2026).
Areas of agency cooperation
Singapore agencies and Macao counterparts maintain cooperation in transport, heritage management, elderly care, gaming regulation and youth engagement. These areas show the practical, sectoral character of the relationship: exchanges can involve regulators, public institutions and specialised agencies rather than only political leaders or foreign ministries (MFA, Macao Special Administrative Region, accessed 29 August 2026). The list describes cooperation areas; it does not establish a standing treaty for each area or show that every project is jointly operated. It also does not imply identical laws or institutions on both sides.
High-level exchanges and the 2026 visit
High-level contact is part of the relationship's continuing exchange pattern. Macao Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai's official visit to Singapore from 29 to 31 August 2026 was his first official visit to Singapore in that capacity; the published MFA announcement recorded meetings with Singapore leaders and the accompanying delegation, but did not itself announce a new bilateral agreement or policy package (MFA, Official Visit by Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai, 29 August 2026, accessed 29 August 2026; 2026 08 macao official visit). The 2026 visit is therefore a current milestone within the wider relationship, not the point at which Singapore–Macao ties began.
