Interactive Singapore Geological Map
BCA's Interactive Singapore Geological Map is a configurable PDF and GIS resource with bedrock, superficial-deposit and engineering-bedrock views, geographic reference layers and downloadable shapefiles for Singapore.
Interactive Singapore Geological Map
Singapore's Interactive Singapore Geological Map (iSGM) is a BCA geological reference resource presented as an interactive PDF with configurable map views. BCA describes it as a resource that can be printed at A0 size and accompanied by GIS shapefiles, making it useful for orientation and technical reference across Singapore's built-environment and geoscience work (BCA Guidebooks and Publications, accessed 2 September 2026).
Configurable map views
The iSGM provides three selectable layer views: bedrock geology, combined bedrock and superficial geology, and engineering bedrock geology. These are views of the same national map resource rather than three unrelated maps. The engineering-bedrock view is particularly relevant to built-environment users, but the existence of a geological layer does not by itself determine the suitability, bearing capacity or construction method for a specific site (BCA Guidebooks and Publications, accessed 2 September 2026).
Geographic reference and GIS outputs
In addition to the geological information, BCA lists geographic reference data including rivers, roads, expressways and MRT lines. The resource also provides GIS shapefiles, allowing users with compatible geographic-information tools to work with the map data beyond the interactive PDF. The map can be printed in A0 format, which supports larger-format review while preserving the distinction between a reference map and a site investigation (BCA Guidebooks and Publications, accessed 2 September 2026).
Relationship to Singapore's wider geology resources
The iSGM complements BCA's bundled Singapore Geological Map and Memoir. BCA describes the bundled resource as containing a geological memoir and A0 maps, including an engineering-geology chapter and photographic material, while the iSGM supplies a configurable digital map and GIS-oriented outputs (BCA Guidebooks and Publications, accessed 2 September 2026). The two resources should not be collapsed into a claim that the interactive map is a substitute for the memoir, a current statutory plan or a project-specific ground investigation.
Appropriate interpretation and limits
The iSGM is a national reference and visualisation resource. It can help users understand the broad spatial relationship between Singapore's geological layers and other geographic features, and can support early planning or research questions. It is not, on the BCA resource descriptions, a planning approval, a construction permit, a geotechnical investigation report or a guarantee that ground conditions at a particular lot match the map's generalised representation (BCA Universal Design Guides, accessed 2 September 2026). Site-specific design and construction decisions therefore require the applicable professional and regulatory assessments in addition to consulting the iSGM.
