MUIS Retirement and Community-Care Support for Senior Zakat Beneficiaries 2026

CPF matched retirement savings

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) reported on 3 September 2026 that 830 eligible senior Zakat beneficiaries received about $3.3 million in CPF Retirement Account top-ups during the first year of the MUIS-CPF Matched Retirement Savings Scheme (MRSS). MUIS contributed about $1.66 million from Zakat funds and the Government matched it dollar-for-dollar. MUIS introduced the annual scheme in 2025, with MUIS-funded top-ups of up to $2,000 for each eligible senior. (MUIS, 3 September 2026, accessed 5 September 2026.)

Support beyond monthly assistance

The MRSS complements monthly Zakat Financial Assistance: the monthly assistance addresses daily living expenses, while direct CPF Retirement Account credits are intended to strengthen longer-term retirement security. MUIS said it works with mosques, the Agency for Integrated Care, Active Ageing Centres, SingHealth and other community organisations to connect seniors with physical, social and spiritual support. (MUIS, 3 September 2026, accessed 5 September 2026.)

Santunan Emas and framework review

MUIS said Santunan Emas links senior Zakat beneficiaries to community activities, health programmes, relevant services and spiritual guidance. Following the 2026 National Day Rally, the programme will expand to Darul Makmur Mosque in Yishun, Assyafaah Mosque in Sembawang, and An-Nur Mosque and Yusof Ishak Mosque in Woodlands. MUIS is also reviewing its Zakat Assistance Framework; the release said further details would be shared in the coming months. (MUIS, 3 September 2026, accessed 5 September 2026.)
