Feed and Feed Ingredient Technology Centre
Singapore's Feed and Feed Ingredient Technology Centre is an SFA–SIT R&D centre for tropical-marine aquafeed, combining feed formulation, nutrition modelling, pilot production and efficacy trials for local and regional farms.
Feed and Feed Ingredient Technology Centre
Singapore's Feed and Feed Ingredient Technology Centre (F2TC) is a dedicated R&D centre established by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) for feed and feed technology for tropical marine species. Housed at SIT, it is intended to provide a one-stop platform to trial, pilot and scale feed innovations, strengthening Singapore's aquaculture-nutrition capabilities and local farm productivity. F2TC is a research and translation centre, not a fish farm, a feed-subsidy scheme, or a replacement for SFA licensing and food-safety rules (SFA/SIT, 3 June 2026).
Capabilities and applied research
F2TC's announced capabilities include feed formulation, nutrition modelling, pilot-scale feed production and efficacy trials. These functions are designed to connect laboratory and engineering work with conditions faced by aquaculture farms, where species-appropriate, high-quality nutrition affects productivity and input costs. SFA contributes technical expertise, industry networks and facilitation of industry projects; SIT contributes extrusion process engineering, applied research with industry, digitalisation and AI-driven modelling (SFA/SIT, 3 June 2026). The centre's existence does not by itself validate an individual feed formula or make it commercially available; each result requires its own testing and assessment.
Industry partnerships and regional role
F2TC's first announced collaborations are with Clextral, a twin-screw feed-extrusion technology company, and INVE, an aquaculture health and nutrition company. Clextral is to support capability building and training, while INVE is to help translate R&D outcomes into commercially relevant aquaculture solutions. SFA and SIT say the centre aims to become a knowledge and innovation hub for warm-water species nutrition and to address structural challenges such as feed dependency, climate change and disease in the regional aquaculture sector (SFA/SIT, 3 June 2026). The partnership count is a launch-stage description, not a complete lifetime list of collaborators.
Relationship to AquaPolis and food resilience
F2TC is related to but distinct from AquaPolis, Singapore's broader collaborative aquaculture R&D platform. AquaPolis covers a wider set of aquaculture challenges and partners, while F2TC concentrates on feed and feed-ingredient technology, from formulation and modelling through pilot manufacture and efficacy testing. Both support Singapore's Singapore Food Story and local aquaculture goals, but F2TC should not be described as the whole Singapore Aquaculture Plan or as an automatic grant for every farm (SFA/SIT, 3 June 2026; SFA, Marine Aquaculture Centre).
Scope and interpretation
The 3 June 2026 announcement establishes the centre and its intended applied-research model, but it does not publish a universal project budget, guaranteed feed-price reduction, or fixed commercial launch date for any individual product. Farm, industry and research-partner participation should be checked against subsequent F2TC or SFA notices. Results should be evaluated through validated nutrition outcomes, cost and productivity effects, environmental performance, safety and adoption rather than inferred from the centre's launch alone (SFA/SIT, 3 June 2026).
