Singapore Sport Hall of Fame 2026 Inductions

On 17 July 2026, Sport Singapore announced two new inductees into the Singapore Sport Hall of Fame: Tang Pui Wah, Singapore's first female Olympian, and Tay Chin Joo, a pioneering Singapore swimmer. The induction recognised both their competition records and their continuing contributions to Singapore sport after their competitive careers (Sport Singapore, Singapore Sport Hall of Fame 2026).

Tang Pui Wah

Tang competed at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games as Singapore's first female Olympian. Sport Singapore also records her multiple gold medals at the 1951 Malayan Amateur Athletic Association Championships and a bronze medal in the 80-metre hurdles at the 1954 Asian Games. Her later recognition included induction into the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame in 2014 (Sport Singapore, Singapore Sport Hall of Fame 2026).

Tay Chin Joo

Tay became Singapore's youngest Southeast Asian Peninsular Games gold medallist at age 10, a record Sport Singapore says remains unbroken. She represented Singapore at four consecutive SEAP Games, won medals at three Asian Games and competed at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. After retiring from competition, she helped establish the foundations of Singapore's national artistic-swimming programme, including athlete pathways, competition structures and high-performance systems; in 2026 she was serving her second term as Vice President of Artistic Swimming at Singapore Aquatics (Sport Singapore, Singapore Sport Hall of Fame 2026).

What the Hall of Fame recognises

The Hall of Fame is a record of Singapore's sporting history, not only a list of competition medals. Since its 2023 refresh, it has included an Athlete category and a Sport Leader category for people such as coaches, administrators and sport scientists whose work supports sporting success. For the 2026 selection, Sport Singapore reported 30 nominations received between 28 July and 28 September 2025—13 in the Athlete category and 17 in the Sport Leader category—and selected the two women as inductees; there were no Sport Leader inductees in that cycle (Sport Singapore, Singapore Sport Hall of Fame 2026).
