Hospital System Anchors
Dated MOH anchors for Singapore public and private hospital counts, national specialty centres, three-cluster organisation, ward-class subsidy ranges, and capacity expansion milestones — distinct from bed-level or bill calculators.
Hospital System Anchors
Facility counts are not bed counts. Subsidy percentages are means-tested maxima, not every citizen’s automatic rate. Full PCHI tables live in healthcare subsidy rates.
Facility counts (MOH acute-hospitals page)
| Metric | Value | As-of / source note |
|---|---|---|
| Public hospitals | 11 | 9 acute general + KK Women’s and Children’s + Institute of Mental Health |
| Private hospitals | 9 | Of which 1 is classified not-for-profit |
| National specialty centres | 10 | Cancer, cardiac, eye, skin, neuroscience, infectious diseases, dental, and related specialties as listed by MOH |
| Page last updated | 24 March 2025 | MOH Acute hospitals, accessed 8 Aug 2026 |
Three integrated clusters
| Cluster | Illustrative public acute / major institutions (not exhaustive) |
|---|---|
| SingHealth | Singapore General, Changi General, Sengkang General, KK Women’s and Children’s, plus several national centres |
| NHG Health | Tan Tock Seng, Khoo Teck Puat, Woodlands, Institute of Mental Health |
| NUHS | National University, Ng Teng Fong General, Alexandra |
Cluster reorganisation announced 18 January 2017, completed early 2018 framing (MOH cluster reorganisation). Patients are not legally confined to a home cluster. “Restructured hospital” means corporatised public institution under government ownership/funding — not privatisation.

Denominator traps
- 11 public hospitals ≠ 11 A&E departments. Alexandra Hospital is the stated exception without a 24-hour ED among general hospitals.
- Community hospital ≠ ED ≠ nursing home. Intermediate rehabilitation/sub-acute after stabilisation; not walk-in emergency or long-term residential care.
- Subsidy % ≠ MediShield Life / IP payout. Apply healthcare financing and integrated shield plans after ward subsidy.
- Prefer banded tables in healthcare subsidy rates over quoting only the maximum.
