SMRT WorkSAFE App 2026

SMRT unveiled WorkSAFE on 12 August 2026 as an AI-enabled workplace-safety application developed by STRIDES Digital. The app is available to SMRT employees and can also be used by the Group's contractors, partners and vendors. It consolidates safety reporting and information that were previously spread across multiple systems; it is an operator safety tool, not a government-wide workplace-safety platform (SMRT, 12 August 2026).

Reporting, alerts and safety guidance

Users can submit incident reports using voice input. The app uses AI to classify reports and route them to relevant teams, while live dashboards track safety trends and performance indicators. It also provides safety tips aligned with SMRT Work Safety Manuals and regulatory requirements through an AI chatbot, and allows users to upload risk assessments for AI-assisted review. These features support earlier identification and follow-up of risks. The announcement presents the software as assistance: competent human assessment and statutory safety duties remain necessary (SMRT, 12 August 2026).

The workflow therefore links reporting, triage and guidance, but the public announcement does not say that every report is automatically escalated, that every dashboard indicator is independently verified, or that an AI-assisted risk assessment is an approval. A user should treat the tool as an internal safety-management aid whose output still needs review in the relevant operational context (SMRT, 12 August 2026).

Contractor support and funding boundary

SMRT said the app can be customised for contractors and partners operating in different environments. Under the NTUC–NTWU–SMRT partnership, SMRT also said SME partners may receive co-funding of up to 70% of qualifying costs for projects or training tied to transformation through NTUC Company Training Committee grants. That percentage is a stated programme ceiling for qualifying projects or training, not an automatic subsidy for every WorkSAFE user or every safety purchase (SMRT, 12 August 2026).

The co-funding statement and the app-access statement answer different questions. Being a contractor, partner or vendor that can use a customised WorkSAFE environment does not by itself establish SME status, eligibility for a Company Training Committee grant or approval of a particular project. The release also does not publish an application form, assessment timetable, qualifying-cost list or guarantee that every contractor will receive the maximum rate; those details must come from the applicable grant administrator or current programme guidance (SMRT, 12 August 2026).

How the app fits SMRT's safety system

WorkSAFE should be read as an internal and partner-facing operating tool within SMRT's existing safety-management arrangements. Its reporting, dashboard and chatbot functions bring information together; they do not by themselves create a new statutory standard for rail, bus, construction or other workplaces. The release describes use by SMRT employees and by contractors, partners and vendors, so “user” is a defined group connected to the SMRT ecosystem rather than the whole Singapore workforce. The app's ability to route a voice incident report or assist with a risk assessment also says nothing about whether an incident is legally reportable, whether a control is adequate, or whether a regulator has accepted an employer's explanation. Those questions remain governed by the relevant workplace-safety requirements and responsible human decision-makers (SMRT, 12 August 2026).

WorkSAFE is not a replacement for competent assessment or statutory duties; its AI outputs support workflow and do not decide legal reporting, compliance or liability.

Forum, tripartite partnership and evidence boundary

The app was unveiled at SMRT’s fourth Contractors’ Safety Forum, a forum that SMRT says brings the operator, industry leaders and contractor partners together to share practices and address safety challenges. SMRT described itself as a Workplace Safety and Health Advocate and a Queen Bee company working with NTUC and the National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU) to support SME contractors and workers across the public-transport ecosystem (SMRT, 12 August 2026). The release also reported zero fatalities and zero major injuries across SMRT and its contractor partners’ operations in 2025, and said the forum drew over 250 attendees. These are SMRT-reported organisational and event figures, not a national transport-safety rate, a causal evaluation of WorkSAFE, or proof that every contractor has adopted the app.

Boundaries of the 2026 announcement

The 12 August 2026 announcement establishes a product launch, described capabilities and a partnership context; it does not publish a national adoption rate, a measured reduction in incidents, or a universal funding entitlement. The “up to 70%” figure belongs to qualifying transformation projects or training under Company Training Committee grants for SME partners. It should not be converted into a claim that each WorkSAFE account, safety purchase or vendor receives 70% support. Similarly, AI classification and dashboards can help organise information, but the announcement does not state that they certify compliance, determine legal liability, or replace site-specific professional judgment. A later SMRT, NTUC, NTWU, MOM or other official announcement would be needed to establish any expanded user population, funding rule, performance result or regulatory effect (SMRT, 12 August 2026).
