Hinduism Institution Anchors
Dated SingStat and HEB anchors for Singapore Hinduism — 2020 census share, four HEB-administered temple endowments, account-supervision scope, and the distinction from MUIS-style umbrella regulation.
Hinduism Institution Anchors
Census shares describe reported affiliation among residents aged 15+, not temple attendance. HEB administers named endowments, not every Hindu shrine.
Census (2020)
| Metric | Value | Denominator / note |
|---|---|---|
| Hinduism share | 5.0% | Singapore residents aged 15 years and over (2020); was 5.1% in 2010 |
| Approximate count (planning-area tables) | About 172,963 | Same resident-adult denominator in published planning-area tables |
| Hinduism among Indian residents aged 15+ | 57.3% | Do not infer faith from Indian ethnicity alone |
| Sikhism (separate affiliation) | 10,847 resident adults | Not a subset of the Hinduism row |

Hindu Endowments Board
| Anchor | Value / rule |
|---|---|
| Legal basis | Hindu Endowments Act 1968; statutory body under MCCY |
| Directly administered temple endowments | Four: Sri Mariamman Temple; Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple; Sri Sivan Temple; Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman Temple |
| Account supervision | Supervisory powers over accounts of all Hindu endowments in Singapore, including those HEB does not manage |
| Membership | Singapore citizens who are Hindus; appointed by the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth (three-year terms; current board to 31 May 2029 per HEB) |
| Not MUIS-equivalent | Does not regulate every temple, certify food, run schools, or administer personal law for all Hindus |

Festival / calendar traps
| Observance | Public-holiday status |
|---|---|
| Deepavali | Gazetted public holiday (see festivals and public holidays) |
| Thaipusam | Major Tamil Hindu festival; not one of the recurring national public holidays |
Denominator traps
- HEB four temples ≠ all Hindu temples. Independent societies (e.g. Chettiars’ Temple Society) manage other major sites.
- 5.0% Hindu ≠ 5.0% of total population including non-residents and children under 15.
- Indian ethnicity ≠ Hinduism. Substantial Indian residents report other affiliations or none.
- Prefer hinduism and minority faiths for Sikh/Jewish/Jain/Zoroastrian institutions; this dataset grounds the Hinduism topic primarily.
